Frequently asked questions
Do I have to be referred by a doctor?
No, anyone can refer themselves for treatment. However, if you wish to use your medical insurance to claim for treatment costs, some policies require your GP to authorise this, so check the conditions of your health policy before your first appointment.
How do I know if a Physiotherapist is fully qualified?
All Chartered Physiotherapists have undergone the required training and passed the necessary exams to enable them to practice. They will have the letters MCSP after their names. Physiotherapists and Chiropodists working at Woodfield Physiotherapy Centre are registered with the Health Professions Council and copies of their certificates of registration can be seen in Reception.
What should I wear?
Dress comfortably in loose fitting clothes. To accurately assess and treat, the therapist will need to see the affected body part. So if you have a knee problem bring shorts, and for back and shoulder problems you may be asked to undress to your underwear. You may be asked to go on the treadmill so please bring your trainers and any orthotics you may have with you.
Is Physiotherapy treatment appropriate for back and neck problems?
Chartered Physiotherapists are qualified to treat all spinal problems. In fact a large percentage of our workload consists of neck and back problems.
Can a Physiotherapist manipulate?
All Chartered Physiotherapists with the appropriate postgraduate training can manipulate.
How long are the appointments?
The initial assessment and treatment will be at least 45 minutes with follow-up sessions lasting between 30 and 45 minutes.
What if I am unable to attend my appointment?
Please contact the practice immediately if you are unable to attend your appointment. You can leave a message on the answer phone if it is out of clinic hours.
Will I be charged for non-attendance?
It depends on the circumstances. We ask for at least 24 hours notice if possible.
